Do Christians Know How To Love God?

“We should read God’s word (Jesus is God’s word) not for what we can get out of it, not for what it will do for us, but for what it will teach us to do for our God.” – Charles Colson

This does not suggest a sense of duty, but a sense of love, purpose and fulfillment. We all long to experience adventure, freedom, excitement, love and acceptance. All these vital needs and longings we have because He designed us to have them. Being alive is found in Him. Being alive is connecting with Him. The Bible is all about getting to know Him so that we can be closer and more intimate with Him. True love seeks to please not self, but the one who is the object of our love. It just so happens (by design) that our “self” is pleased, satisfied and fulfilled as our love for Him causes us to die to self so that He might live more in us.

He wants to give us new life! The Bible is our introduction to the lover of our soul and our salvation from being separated from Him.

Luke 4:8 – Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’”

To worship Him is to love Him. To love Him is to worship Him. To worship Him is to do/be what He created us to do/be.

One day I was watching buzzards soar behind our house. I felt the Holy Spirit ask the question, “what are they doing?” As is His nature with these encounters, it feels as if time is suspended  in that moment in which He asks the question and gives the answer. The answer was, “they are worshiping me.” The explanation was that they were doing what they were created to do. To me it looked like they were just having fun!

They were worshiping, fulfilling their purpose and having fun!
